Detailed itinerary of the 10 Days Best of Uganda safari (wildlife, chimpanzee & Gorilla trekking)

Day 1: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park with a rhino tracking experience en-route

On the first day of your 10 days best of Uganda safari tour, transfer to Murchison Falls. On your journey of 5-6 hours which takes you from Kampala along the Gulu highway, you will have a stopover at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking.

Get to a hotel in Masindi for lunch then drive 85kms to Murchison Falls via Kichumbanyobo gate. Go visit the top of the falls then continue to your booked lodge.

Day 2 of 10 Days Best of Uganda Safari: Game drive & boat cruise to the bottom of the mighty Murchison Falls

After breakfast, you will engage in a game drive in your main Destination-Murchison Falls National Park. This activity involves you spotting numerous wildlife such as lions, Rothschild giraffes, antelopes, warthogs, elephants, leopards, and birds.

Return after 3-4 hours’ game drive in a full-size 4×4 Land Cruiser or 4×4 Safari Van with a pop-up. You will undertake a 2-3 hours launch cruise towards the falls with the opportunity to spot crocodiles as they bask on river banks, hippos, birds, and other species.

Day 3: Depart Murchison Falls National Park for Kibale Forest National Park

Day 3 of the 10 days best of Uganda safari involves driving from Murchison Falls National Park to Kibale after breakfast. Pay a visit to Amabere Caves en route and later, enjoy lunch at a hotel in Fort Portal Tourism City. Continue to check into your accommodation in Kibale National Park.

Day 4 of 10 Days Best of Uganda Safari: Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park then travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Have an early morning breakfast and later, report to Kanyanchu Tourist Centre for a briefing on chimp trekking which is part of your 10-day best of Uganda safari. Kibale sits on 795sq.km and protects 13 primate species.

Today, you will explore one of the habituated chimpanzee communities. After the chimp trek, go enjoy a guided nature walk at Bigodi wetland then proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park, 3 hours drive.

Day 5: Game drive & boat cruise in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Game drive the early morning after breakfast and this takes you via Kasenyi Plains. You catch sight of African bush elephants, leopards, antelopes, birds, buffaloes, and lions. Have lunch at the lodge after 3-4 hours’ game drive and later, take part in a launch cruise along Kazinga Channel.

Day 7 of 10 Days Best of Uganda Safari: Gorilla trekking tour & cultural trip in the Batwa community

Briefing about gorilla trekking rules early in the morning after breakfast. Depending on the region (Bwindi has 4 gorilla sectors; Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija, and Nkuringo), you will be assigned to a habituated gorilla family to track starting at 8:00 am. Trekking gorillas takes about 2-6 hours and it covers a maximum of 1 hour of face-to-face encounters. You also have the opportunity to enjoy a Batwa cultural experience.
